Every autumn as I enjoy the falling leaves, the beautiful colors and the smell of apple cider on the stove top, I have to remind myself that winter, that season of cold and snow is a necessary and positive time for the Castle’s garden. Even Jim’s roses deserve a rest! Now that it’s almost Summer, I hear the birds chirping just before dawn, calling us to get up and start our day. The fruit trees are blossoming, the peonies are up and the iris are cheerfully declaring Summer’s almost here!

In light of the economic uncertainty in our lives today, we all need to take a little time to take care of ourselves. Guests tell us that morning is the best time of day here at the Castle Marne Bed & Breakfast. The morning sun is just rising above the horizon, birds are twittering in the trees and the smells of fresh brewing Marne blend coffee and baking muffins waft up the stairs slipping under the bedroom doors filling the guest rooms with the wonderful aromas of hot breakfast ready to be enjoyed. Once everyone is seated at the elegant dining room table and introduced to one another, juice and coffee is poured and the entree served; sounds of happy and hungry guests are enjoying our award winning breakfast. Satisfied and full, guests linger over their last cup of coffee and chat with fellow guests, sharing stories and recommending that perfect museum. Repeat guests Judy and Robert from Chicago, say their favorite breakfast is Jim’s scrambled eggs served on a bed of Spinach Florentine with a baked tomato. Louie J. and Charlie, our third generation innkeepers have recorded their version of comedians Abbott and Costello’s classic routine, “Who’s On First”. Order a gourmet picnic from us, pick up a bottle of your favorite wine and walk over to Denver’s premier City Park to enjoy the great music; we’ll even give you a blanket to sit on. Anyone like ghost stories? How about a stroll through Denver’s oldest and most haunted cemetery? We’ll pack the gourmet picnic and you provide the wine. As many of you know, Jim is a Denver Historian. He has written a booklet sharing stories of some of Denver’s pioneer families and why the cemetery is haunted. Another MUST is a stroll through the haunted rose gardens of our neighborhood Cheesman Park at dusk. .

Jim and Big Louie are also licensed Wedding Officiants. Without tooting their own horns, they perform some of the best weddings ceremonies in the state. Our Wedding packages include the personalized ceremony, bridal bouquet and matching boutonniere of roses, a delicious wedding cake for two and the perfect room for your honeymoon night. Getting married but the Castle Marne is too small for your party? Think about booking your Bridal Luncheon or Wedding Shower with us. We serve elegant Afternoon Tea’s and Luncheons. Our price is $30.00 + tax + gratuity per person and we can seat up to 20 people for your party. The Afternoon Tea menu starts with a seasonal soup, then the entrée of 6 Victorian Finger Sandwiches, an individual quiche and fresh fruit salad. Dessert comes in two courses; the warm from the oven scones with home made lemon curd, fresh whipped cream and preserves, then we pass the dessert tray of shortbread, lemon bars, raspberry bars and chocolate truffles. We serve two kinds of hot tea, an herbal tea and a loose leaf Earl Gray Tea. .

The Victorian Luncheon starts with either a seasonal soup or salad of fresh field greens and home made dressing, and an entrée of North Atlantic Salmon poached in Champagne and served with a fresh fruit salsa and chef’s choice of veggie, or a roasted with wild strawberry glaze Cornish Game hen served on a bed of wild rice with the chef’s choice of veggies. My special home baked bread rolls and butter is also served. For dessert we serve the Castle’s own home made fruit sorbet and a Castle Marne cookie. Tea and coffee is included as well. Since the Castle Marne does not have a liquor license you are welcome to bring your favorite bottle of wine or champagne and we will gladly pour. We do not charge a “corkage fee”. .
